PACIFIC MILITARY FORCES.

■*■ RING OF ARMED NATIONS. SIR lAN HAMILTON AT SYDNEY Received Tuesday, 8 10 p.m. By Telegraph.—Press Association.— Copyright Sydney, Tuesday. Genera) Sir lan Hamilton has arrived at Sydney. To an interviewer he said: "Certainly my object is to standardise the forces within certain limits. If you get totally different descriptions of units trained in tactically different manners you do no good. For example if the units were supplied with different kinds of ammunition it would be very detrimental to the efficiency of the combined forces. At the 'ame time each branch of the nation has its own characteristics, usually well suited to the military tactics that would develop in our own countries, therefore considerable latitude should be allowed." Speaking at the Lord Mayor's reception, General Sir lan Hamilton said there had arisen in the Pacific basin forces and nations formerly negligible which were now assuming formidable proportions. It might be that the next place of great military struggles might be in Pacific. If we cast our eyes round we could Bee a ring of armed nations with Australia in the middle of the ring. Those nations were looking in a formidable manner at Australia. It was important that the people of Britain should know the people here are not waiting until the danger absolutely arrives, but are taking time by the forlock.
