WATER SUPPLY DAM.

PROGRESS OF WORK. It is practically assured that the dam in connexion with the Te Kuiti water supply will not be necessary for this season. The weather has been quite normal and there are no prospects of a protracted drv spell. The construction of the dam ia proceeding satisfactorily, and the work should be completed during the 1 summer. The contractor, Mr L. G. P. Spencer, had a somewhat anxious time at the beginning of the work owing to the unsually heavy rainfall during December, but since the holidays advantage haß been taken of the fine weather to push on with the foundation work, following is the monthly report of the clerk of the works, Mr E. Johnson, who is overseeing the work on behalf of the Borough Council—"During the last month work on the above contract has proceeded satisfactorily. Practically the whole excavating work is completed excepting that which has to be done to supply material for forming the earthen embankments on each side of the concrete core wall. The scour culvert is constructed throughout; the upstream and downstream retaining walls have been erected on a foundation of papa and hard blue clay. The foundations of the scour culvert and retaining walls are of papa. The contractor and six men are engaged on the works and there" is a good supply of structural material on the site. The aproximate quantities of work done to date are as follows —40 cubic yard of puddle in puddle core Wall on south side of ereek; 36 cubic fyards of concrete in concrete core wall; 26 cubic yards of concrete in scour culvert; 8 cubic yards of concrete in downstream retaining wall; 2 cubic yards of concrete in upstream retaining wall.—Edward Johnson, Clerk of Works."
