AUSTRALIA'S ANNIVERSARY.
LONDON CELEBRATIONS. TO LEAD THE OLD. By Telegraph.—Pr&ss Association.—Copyright London, Monday. The anniversary of the founding of Australia was celebrated to-day. A thanksgiving service at St. Dunstan's in the East was attended by about 150 people, mostly ladies. The Rev. C. E. Doudney, formerly of South Australia, preached a stirring sermon on the text: "Righteousness exalteth a nation." He dmhasised the fact that Australia was the only instance of a nation founded without bloodshed. He hoped that Australia would lead in civiilsing and Christianising a bad olrJ world. The Wattle Day League's reception at the Metropole was largely attended, the guests including Lord Emmotta (Under Secretary for the Colonies). Sir John McCall (AgentGeneral for Tasmania), in the course of his speech, paid a tribute to Lord Strathcona's services to the Empire. He regretted Sir G. Reid's absence. Patriotic songs and recitations were rendered by Australian performers.
