Tremendous interest is being taken in Gray's match with Newman in the Holborn Town Hall, as it will reveal whether Gray can do so well with his favourite stroke (losing hazard off the red) with ivory balls. The opening of the match was quiet. Gray's best effort off the red wes 69 in a break of 7G. Hi? beat break so far has been 110. and Newman's best is six less.
At the conclur ian of the first day's play Newman's score (including his start) was 5167 while Gray has made 645.
Gray was in p::or form at the evening session, and was unable to control the ivory ball for his favourite stroke. His best runs of losing hazards off the red were seventesn and thirteen.
