COMMERCIAL.

LONDON WOOL SALES. GOOD CLOSING PRICES. London, Monday. The wool sales have el)sed with prices which reached the' highest point of any during the series. The prices for greasy combing advanced 5 per cent., for crossbreds 5 to 7£ per cert., with a rise of 10 per cent, for finest. Scoureds are unchanged as com pared with last sales. Slipes, which were inferior, declined a halfpenny. In view of the relatively low level of the value of "tops" and yarns the keen demand for wool has surprised the trade. The hosiery industry, however, is Very prosperous. Merino fabrics are in strong demand. A large depletion' in stocks of "tops" is expected before March, and a good American demand for crossbreds during the coming months. The top price for Orakei was 13|d, and the average 12|d. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report:— RANGIRIRI SALE. At Rangiriri on 20th inst., we had a medium yarding of cattle, which sold at most satisfactory prices. Three-year steers made £5 17s to £6 2s, bullocks in forward condition £7 7s to £B, two and a half year steers £4 19a to £5 Bs, fat cows £5 10s to £6 2s, store cows £3 5s to £3 14s, cows in~fresh to forward condition £4 7s 6d to £5, cavles 32s to 375, bulls £4 2s 6d to £7. We held sales during the week at Kauroa, Pio Pio, and Ngaruawahia, and notwithstanding dry weather, report fair business at about above prices.
