BOWLING.

Some excellent games were witnessed on the Te Kui'i green on Saturday. The return of Power, who, together with Howarth, holds the Julian pairs buckles, paved the way for the playing off of some of the challenges for the coveted trophies. Inder and Steel were the first pair to be accommodated and the game was Power 18 Steel 16 at the last head. The latter was lying two when Power went for a dead head and drove the jack into position for a draw. Bis opponent went for a dead head and missed, and the buckles remained with the holders. Rowell and Williams made a valiant bid for the trophies, and were in the lead for most of the game. Power got four up on Williams at the fourteenth head, a'nd secured the advantage which was retained to the finish, the game when the concluding head was commenced reading, Power 18, Williams 14. The leading of Rowell and Howarth in the pairs contest was a feature of the game. Both colts showed surprisingly good form, and if they continue to improve will be hard nuts to crack in the nrst year players' competition. Mora is another first year player who is showing improved form. He is drawing very consistently, and is also developing a drive the accuracy of which is responsible for much discomfiture to his opponents. Young is bowling with a new set of bowls to which he has not yet got accustomed, but he is practising assiduously with a view to tbe Hamilton tournament. He promises to develop into a vpry accurate lead, and under the guidance of Power will have every opportunity of going on the right lines. The older players are all in good form, and the No. 2 team for Hamilton made a satisfactory showing against a str me combination skipped by Dransfield during the week. With a fair share of luck in tbe tournament tbe No. 2 team should perform with credit, and the experience of match play should be highly beneficial to the members.
