SOUTH AFRICAN STRIKE.
PATE OP ARRESTEES. RAILWAYMEN REQUEST RELEASE. By Telegraph.—Press Association.- -Copyrifffct Received Friday, 10.30 p.m. Johnnesburg, Friday. It is surmised the active body who assumed the functions of the Labour Federation in declaring the strike off until further notice is interpreted by the authorities in the nature of a threat owing to the fact that after the Miners' Association was allowed the open use of the Trades Hall the privilege was subsequently withdrawn. Pretoria, Friday.
A deputation of railwaymen asked General Lukin to release the arrested strikers. The general replied he could onlv deal with the arrestees by martial 'aw.
Later they were informed the Government was considering each case on its merits.
