MEETING OF CITIZENS
There was a representative gathering at tho meeting called last night by" the Mayor for the purpose of considering what steps Bhould be taken towards showing appreciation of the action of those who went to Auckland as .special constables during the recent strike. His Worship the Mayor in outlining tha proposal said the medals which were struck by the Defence Committee at Auckland were to be presented to the specials and it was considered a fitting opportunity for the public to signify their appreciation for services rendered in time of stresg. After lome discussion it was decided that the function should nsuiurne the form of a procession, and a sports display in the afternoon, and a social in the Town Hall in the evening. The evening prior to the Te Kuiti races, February 4th. was decided upon as the date, and the following were elected a committee to carry nut tho details: Messrs Boddie, Stevens, Graham, Matthew, Martin Lusk, Darrow, Nicholls, Somerville, Walsh. Lamb, Jones and Honore. It was decided the committee should meet on Monday evening and make arrangements for a ladies' meetiing.
