VOLCANIC OUTBREAK.
JAPANESE VILLAGES OVERWHELMED. HUNDREDS PERISH. PLUCKY TELEGRAPH OFFICIAL. * Tokio, Wednesday. The first eruption of Sakurashima occurred on Saturday morning. Enormouß black stonea were thrown 2700 feet in the air Some wore carried twenty miles. Streams o! lava overwhelmed three villages killing many. The remainder fled in boats to Kajoshim, but the fire spread across the bay to the mainland. Further eruptions carrier] the lava to Kagoshima, which waa ignited. The inhabitants fled, but hundreds perished. Refugees crowded the freight trains leaving for the north, and by evening Kagoshima was desert d. The sole occcupant a plucky telegraph official who telegraphed yesterday that the whole place was covered with ashes and smoke, and the earthquakes were increasingly horrible. Further reports show Sakurashima in continuous eruption, and is now enveloped in flames.
