TE KUITI R.C MEETING
With the publication of the weights to-day interest in the forthcoming meeeting of the Te Kuiti Racing Club will be quickened. The nominations are in every respect satisfactory and, given favourable weather conditions, high class fields should fac« the barrier on the day. Work on the course is being curried out satisfactoily, and the running track is being got into first-class order. A portion of the course has been hurdled off and the local horses are being worked outside the trestles.
Garmonsway has Weka, La Sylph and Chris in work. The first named is looking fresh and wall, and a big improvement has wrought in La Sylph within the last few weeks. Stewart has the aged gelding Pairawatu and Lady Betty in hand. The former is now well into the sere and yellow Isaf, and can hardly be expected to come back to his early form, but Lady Betty is a decidedly useful looking mare who may be expected to perform with credit at country meetings.
Royal Patron, who is by Patronus, hails from the Taihape district, and has been working on the local track for the past week. He is enagged in the minor events and is looking birght and well. Canberra is a local aspirant for maiden honours, and has shown pace in her initial efforts However, she is on the small side and would be eligible for the pony class provided races of that description were placed on the programmes. Fishmaid, a locally owned mare by Swordfish 11., is an aged mare and undoubtedly has pace. She appears to be Wf 11 served in the matter of condi tion, and will be given the opportunity to prove her worth in the minor events
Salvia and Maid of Orleans have both been doing easy work since their return from Auckland. The latter shows pace in her work, but has not yet carried the colours in a race. She is engaged in the short distance events. Salvia is engaged at Takapuna at the end of the present month, and will return to take part in the local meeting. She has lightened up since the Auckland meeting, and is not being asked to do a great deal. TRAIN ARRANGEMENTS. The special train arrangements made in connection with the gathering should materially help towards increasing the attendance. An excur eion train will leave Auckland on the morning of the races at 6.30 calling at all the stations of importance between Auckland and Frankton. From the latter station to Te Kumi the train will run through without a stop, arriving at the racecourse at 12.20 a.m. This train will leave Te Kuiti for Auckland at 6.40 p.m. arriving at the city just before midnight. A special train to pick up passengers this side of Hamilton will leave Frankton at 9 a.m. arriving at Te Kumi at 11.10 a.m. Thia train will leave Te Kuiti at 7.10 p.m. arriving at Frankton at 9.45 p.m. People wishing to attend the races from Taumarunui or any intervening places can return by the train leaving Te Kuiti at 9.30 p.m., and arriving at Taumarunui at 12.30.
