THE ZABERN AFFAIR

VON REUTER JUSTIFIED. Berlin, Monday. The court-martial at Strasburg on Colonel von Reuter and Lieutenant Scad, who were charged with infringing the liberty of the subject during the riots between the military and civilians at Zabern, Alsace, has ended in the acquittal of both the accused. The colone! was acquitted on the ground that he was justified in protecting his officer's honour, the police having faikd in thsir duty, and the colonel having cause to fear disorder and bloodshed.

The court-martial further quashed the sentence on Lieutenant von Forestner on the ground that he had cause to fear that Blank, tha lame shoemaker, was about to attack him with a knife.
