DEMENTED FATHER'S ACT. Sydney, Monday. A tragedy occurred on Friday at Double Bay. Mr* Hardy, the wife of Walter Hardy, head of a large jewellery firm in the city, hearing shots proceed from the bedroom of her son, Allan, aged 21, entered and found the latter on his bed, while her husband was lying on the floor with a revolver alongside his body. Both had been shot in the head. The son died on his way to the hospital. It is Burmised that the father shot his son and then himself. The cause of (he tragedy is a mystery.

The only reason that can be assigned is sudden dementia. The father and boh, who was an only child, were on the most affectionate term?. The son had apparently been shot while sleeping. Last year the faiher suffered from a physical and nervous breakdown. On medical advice he set out for England, but returned to cope with the heavy Christmas business while still suffering from nervous tension. He refused the advice of his son and others to take a further rest.
