HOME RULE QUESTION.
AN ORANGE MANIFESTO. London. Monday. H The Orange Grand Lodge of Ireland has issued a manifesto urging the brethren to complete preparations for the defence of their liberties so as to be able to offer resistance to Home Rule, which could be overcome only by overwhelming force persistently applied. There is the highest authority, says The Times, for stating that a private interchange of views between the party leaders regarding Home Rule occurred during the last two days. The result cannot be predicted. THE CLOSED DOOR. London, Monday. The chance of a settlement in Ireland is smaller to-day than when Mr Asquith spoke at Ladybank, said Mr Bonar Law, Leader of the Opposition, in a speech at Carnarvon on Friday. Unionists regarded the speech at Leeds as closing the door. "If the Government makes any proposal to me, we shall consider it regardless of party advantage or disadvantage " The Daily Telegraph stated that Welsh Disestablishment will be taken before Home Rule during the coming session.
