TE MAPARA.
Own Correspondent. A most enjoyable social wss held in the ;Te Mapara school on Thursday evening last, when the settlers (if the district met to welcome the incoming Presbyterian minister, the Rev. Mr Langhton. Altbouhg the climatic conditions were not as favourable as mignt have been wished for the gathering was a fairly large one. Visitors came from as far away as Pio Pio through mire and mud. After short addresses had been given by Messrs Pellinghara, Dr xMcLeod, W. D Hattaway, and the minister, the audience was treated to a brief musical programme. At the conclusion of the reception ceremony the visitors were treated to a supmtuous supper provided by the ladies of the surrounding district. Dancing, interspersed with songs, was kept going til! the early hours of the morning. Too much thanks cannot be offered to Mr McLean, who supplied the dance music, and to Messrs Ringer, Hattaway, and other, who rendered vocal items, etc. The happy gathering broke up with the singing of Auld Lang Syne.
