The Editor.

gj r> There has been reference made' to the road between Hangatiki and Te Kuiti several times lately in your paper. Also 2 deputation waited upon the County Council asking for their assistance in constructing this road, and I see disappointment expressed in the last issue of the Chronicle because no provisions are made on the Estimates for this important road. The road in question has, as you know, been surveyed through from Te Kuiti to Otorohanga and crosses the Mangapu river at Mr Wilson's residence about a mile north of the Hangatiki railway station. Mr Wilson and his Maori neighbours have formed themselves into a special rating district, and have borrowed £6OO through the Waitomo County Council, and the Council are now building a bridge which will cost about £3OO, and are constructing three miles of road with the balance of the loan. This is an example of how to get over the difficulty of roading, and getting access to home=tesds. The very same * can be done with the remaining unconBtructed portions of this very important road, and no doubt when once the road is opened through, and the convenience it will be to the public established, a grant will then be got to metal it. Any settlers wanting to form special rating districts and Wishing to borrow money for constructing roads ' will find the County chairman a most able adviser. He knows every move in the game, and after they get the money they will find the County engineer an equally able man at expending it to their advantage.—l am, etc., i SPECIAL CONSTABLE. Hangatiki, December 25t,1913.
