OTOROHANGA.

Own Correspondent. The representatives of the Mania-poto-Waikato Maori Land Board visittd the town yesterday (Wednesday) to pay out rents of township sections to the various landlords. In consequence there was a large number of natives about, and business was fairly brisk. The last cattle sale of the year was held at the Otorohanga saleyards on Thursday. There was a very fair yarding of stock, buyers were plentiful, but owing to the unsettled stats of the market prices were low. Mr B. H. Harrison, wheelwright and blacksmith, lately in the employ of Mr A. W. Hood, of this town, has commenced business on his own account in the premises lately occupied by Mr J. Dormer, in Maniapoto street. As he is a first clas3 tradesman, ho should get a fair share of support. Although the season so far has been rather wet for fishing, local anglers have had fair sport. A few days ago Mr E. Miller secured five, Mr R. Green three, Mr Keeley three, and Mr Parry two, weighing one and a half to two pounds on the average. Thera seems every probability of excellent sport as soosi as the weather settles down. The Otorohanga Town Council give notice that at a spceial meeting to be held at the Council offices, Tuhoro street, Otorohanga, on December 15th, 1913, at 11 a.m., they will make and levy the following rate for the period Ist April, 3913, to 31st March, 1914: —A general rate under section 78 of "The Municipal Corporations Act, 1908," of five farthings in the £on the ratable value in the valuation roll of all ratable property within the native township of Otorohanga on the basis of capital value. The above general rate will be payable at the offi2es of the said council in one payment on December 2Stb, 1913. Notice is also given that the rate books containing particulars of the above rate are now open for inspection at the Council's offices, Tuhoro street.
