The actual damage by fire was small, but the sprinklers with which the building is fitted got to work automatically, and did a lot of damage. They extingisuhed the fire before the brigade arrived, summoned by the sprinkler alarm, The tea room which has just been renovated, will have to be done up again, and havoc was wrought among costly evening dresses and costumes. The stock is insured for £60,000, but the damage has not yet been estimated.
