THE SUGGESTED AGREEMENT.

[PY TEI.IvGKAIMT.—PRESS ASSOCIATION. ] Wellington, Monday. At the meeting of the Citizens' Defence Coniimttee on Saturday, an intimation was received from the Prime Minister with regard to the new suggestions made by the waterside workers for a further conference. The suggestions put forward to the Prime Miniscer as the basis of BUch a conference were as follows: — 1. That the men be given the right to enter into an agreement with the employers. 2. That the said agreement to be enforceable under the Trades Union Act in the Magistrates Court, the penalty, if any, to be at the dis' cretion of the magistrate, as in the case of any civil action. 3, That the union be protected by an amendment to the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act to the effect that where a union is registered under the Trades Union Act it shall not be permissable for a union in the same district or locality to be registered under the industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act or the Trades Union Act. The Citizens' Defence Committee having considered the proposal,adopted the following resolution:—"That the proposals submitted by the Prime Minister for the consideration of the Citizens' Defence Committee be not entertained, and that, as a new union has now been formed and has been registered under the Arbitration Act, no further negotiations can be entered upon with any other organisation."
