The hotel bars ore to remain closed during tbe present week, at the direction of tbe magistrates, who have acted in response to a request by the Mayor. The strike of cooks and waiters has resulted in a general disloca tion of hotel business, the guests having to do their own cooking and preparing. Practically all the restaurants and tea rooms are closed, and those in the city are driven to all manner of expedients for providing themselves with meals. There are at present no prospects of settlement, and negotiations in this direction hare for the time being been abandoned. An authoritative proclamation bas been issued by the Central Committee which is controlling the strike that all unionists must keep away from Lower Queen street or its vicinity. This warning, it is explained, is intended to have the effect, of demonstrating that it is not the strikers who wish to cause disturbances at the waterfront.
