On Thursday evening last a social was tendered to the settlers in the Mairoa school room by Mr and Mrs Thorns, the occasion being the departure of Miss Waters, niece of Mr and Mrs Thorns, to Wellington. Miss Biddle, niece of Mr and Mrs H. Voyce, who is also leaving Hie district, was associated in the farewell. Mr J.
