MUNICIPAL PICTURE SHOWS.

INTERPRETATION OF ACT. At Monday evening's meeting of the Te Kuiti Borough Council a letter was read from the Foxton Borough Council requesting- the council's cooperation in endeavouring to get a clause inserted in the Municipal Corporations Act making it legal for borpugh cdsincils to run picture shows. The letter pointed out that the borough had been running a picture show for the past three years and the profits of the enterprise had reached nearly a thousand pounds per year. A recent decision of the Chief Justice ruled that it was illegal for the council to promote such undertakings, and the Foxton Council, together with other municipaliti'o3 which were similarly placed, desired to have the Act amended so as to provide the necessary power. The letter was received.
