FAT STOCK MARKET

The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency reports: — On Wednesday at Westfield yards fat cattle were penned in average numbers, and sold at scarcely last week's rates. Beat oxen sold to 31s 6d per 1001b, others 28s to 30s cows and heifers 24s to 295, steers from £7 15s to £l3 17s 6d, cows anc heifers £4 to £9 12s 6d. Veal calves were yarded in good supply, and Bold at late rates. Extra heavy vealers sold at £4 10s to £5 16s, heavy-weight £3 10s to £4 9s, medium-weight £2 to £3 ss, lighter 30s to 38?, others 159 to 30s, smaller and fresh dropped 3s to 12s. Sheep were yarded in average numbers, and were lower in price than the previous week. Best wethers made 27s to 29s 9d. others 23s 3d to 26s 9d, heavy ewes 223 Gd to 255, others 18s 6d to'2ls, shorn wethers ISs 6d to 23s 3d, shorn ewes 17s 6d to 23s 3d, hoggets 15s 6d to 265. Spring lambs came forward in larger numbers than usual, and best quality sold at from 173 Gd to 22s 3d, others 14s 9r! to 17s 3d. Pigs were yarded in large numbers, and baconers sold at £3 4s to £4 19s, porkers £2 2s to £2 19s, slips 20s to 40s 6d, weaners 14s to 19s 6d.

Mesara Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report on their Johnsonville sale as follow 3:—A fair entry of bullocks and sheep came forward, and sold at late rates: —Prime bullocks £ll Wis sd, lighter £ll to £ll ss, vealers 31s to 355, extra prime heavy ewes 325, prime ewes 23s 6d, leading wethers 26s to 26s 6d, prime lambs 16s 9d to 17s 7d, lighter 15s to 15s Bd, others 13s 6d to 14s 6d. The Farmers' Co-operative Auctioneering Co., Ltd., report:— At Onarau on Friday we held our opening sale. There was a large attendance, but prices asked by sellers were in most cases in advance of Waikato rates and a good deal of stock was passed in. We quote—Fat wethers 25s 3d, forward wethers 20s, hoggets, small 21s 3d, three year steers, forward £6 15s, springing heifers £4 10s to £6 15s, two and a half year steers £5 ss, yearling steers £3.

On Saturday, at Te Awamutu, we held our monthly stock sale. Competition was brisk for all classes except yearlings, which Were dull of sale. Springing heifers made £6 to £7 15s, inferior sorts £5 to £5 7s 6d, fat steers £lO 10s, fat cows £6 to £6 10s, two and a half to three year steers £5 9s, eighteen months to two year steers £4 10s. yearling steers £3, store cows £4 3s, fat and forward hoggets 13s 6d, weaner pigs 17s 6d to 225.
