HEGISTR A T T 0 N SjfflWlMß The foilowing isiter in conf«"tJ(P s with registration -iistricia has been received from toe Minster of internal Affairs, by Mr C. K. Wilson, M.P.: —• •'I hnvs the honour to sckr.ovvledge receipt of veer letter of the 18'Ji September. bribing under notice tb« fees that ;ssi cier.3 in yonr district, (o register lbs cirfcua ox thsir children, ara compelled to travel «'o Mokau, a distance o£ some 50 milsn, cna assing whether arrangements could bo u;ade to permit each district to register in its own centre. In reply, I have to inform you that although birtha ;n:a deaths should bo registered in the districts where they occur, section 6 of the Act allows the registrar of any district to register a birth or death provided that registiation could not, without considerable difficulty, delay or expense, be effected with the registrar of the district in which the birth or death actually took place. A marriage certificate, however, must be obtained from the registrar of the district in which the 'marriage is to be and residence by one of the parties for three days in that district ia necessary. There is a registrar of births, deaths and marriages at Mokau, Te Kuiti, Mangapehi, Kira, Ongarue, Ohura, Taumarunui, Waitara and Whangamomona, all of which are in the Taumarunui electorate, po that the district seems well provided for. If, however, you will state the position more definitely and are prepared to make a suggestion, the question of appointing more regiatrara will ba considered. — H. D. Bell, Minister of Internal Affairs."
