BOROUGH RATING.
The public meeting called by the Ratepayers' Association to discuss the. prrcposal of rating on unimproved value eventuated on Monday evening last, when a fair number of citizens attended. Messrs Langstone and Martin spoke in favour of the proposal and Major Lusk and Mr J. Boddie against. Mr Boddie, in his remarks, stated that he intended during next week to arrange for a further public meeting, when he would submit data for the consideration of the ratepayers that would convince them the proposal would not be m the best interssts of the borough. This information will be eagerly looked for and the next public meeting promises to be of an interesting nature, and it behoves the supporters of the change to prepare combative arguments and information from different districts that have already adopted the change. It was pointed out that if by any chance the proposal was defeated a period of three years must elapse before another poll could be taken.
