KING COUNTRY DAIRYING.

OPENING WAITANGURU. FACTORY. A SUCCESFLJL FUNCTION. Monday last was a red letter day at Y/aitanguru the occasion being the opening of the fine new factory which has be9n erected by the settlers. Visitors from far and near attended the function, a considerable number beins present from Te Kuiti while Mr C. K. Wilson, member for the district, journeyed from Wellington to perform the opening ceremony. Punctually at noon Mr H. H. Thorns, chairman of directors of the company announced to the large assemblage at the factory that Mr Wilson would declare the factory open. He referred to the fact that toe progress of the district had taken place within three years and expressed confidence in the prospects for the future. Mr Wilson, in the course of a short speech, advocated co-operation by the settlers in ail respects. He referred to the great development of the dairy-; ing industry and congratulated the s-ttlers upon their energy and enterprise in establishing a factory in the heart of the bush. He ingtanced the progress of the Te Kuiti factory as indicating the potentialities of the dairying industry in the district, and trusted the Waitanguru undertaking would be a gigantic success. Mr Wilson called for cheers for the directors, which were heartily given. He then declared the factory open. Mrs H. H. Thorns then performed the ceremony of breaking a bottle on the machinery.

The company then adjourned to the hall where an attractive repast had been prepared by the settlers' wives. At the conclusion of the banquet the following toasts were honoured: "The Factory," Mr C. Leech —Mr T. E. Foy; "Parliament" Mr W. A. Thorns—Mr G. K. Wilson; "Visitors," Mr J. Voyce—Messrs L. Spencer—and Ralph; "Architect and Contractors." Mr E. Buckley—Messrs M. J. Jones, G. Hitchcock and Drummond (raprestntng Mason, Struthers and Co.); "The Back Blocks," Mr W. Jones —Mr H. Voyce; "The Ladies," Mr E. T. Quinlan —Mesdames H. H. Thoms and E. Garwood; "Press," Mr Frederikson—Mr J. Steel.
