WAITOMO COUNTY COUNCIL.

The ordinary meeting of the above Council was held in the County office on Monday evening. There were present Crs Scholes (chairman), Johnson, Gregg, Were, Smyth. Q'Dwyer, Hoffman and Berry. Mr C. K. Wilson acknowledged receipt of Council's application for loan of £ISOO for the Waiteti road, and stated that he would be pleased to see the Superintendent and urge the request.

The Deputy-Superintendent Stateguaranteed Advances Office. writing in connection same road grant, stated that he had provisionally approved same at 4h per ecnt. per annum exclusive of sinking' fund, and enclosed application form indicating steps necessary for obtaining loan. Same, regarding Council's application for further advance oi £IOO (10 ►per cent, on £1000) to complete roads

The Valuation Department forwarded roll for Manga pa special rating area. Subsidy on rates amounting to £SOO was received from the PaymasterGeneral.

The following amounts were received from tbe Treasury Arapae road £65 7s Id. Miroaa road £203 13s 2d widening. Mairos road ±ll4 15s metalling. The following letter was received from the Prime Minister: —"I am in receipt of your memo, re Council's application for six 10 per cent, loans. In further reply I have the pleasure to state that the Advances Board has provisionally approved the above loans and that application forms have been supplied in each case. The Receiver of Land Revenue wrote informing the Council that £BIS lis less exchange, had been paid to the credit of the Cuuncil on account of accrued thirds. Mr F. Porter. Otorobanga. wrote re his inclusion in the special rating area objecting to same.

Mr E. Sale wrote re raies on proposed formation, widening and installing the Kawbia-Mahoenui road. Mr F. A. Pearson, chairman of the Hauturu branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union, drew attention by letter to the stats of portions of the Muarau road, asking tns Council to send men to clear slips and clean out culverts and do necessary repair;.', stating that this summer this would be a very important road. —Resolved that the matter be left in the hands of the engineer to attend co Mr J. E. Daiy wrote stating that anything done by the Council on the Mangaotaki road would meet with sincere appreciation. Mr Galbraith Wratten wrote Mangaohue road stating tnat he nad written to the member for the district, Mr G. K. Wilson, asking him to use hi 3 best endeavours to have sum or, say, £3OO. placed on the Estimates for the purnose of widening his end of the road.

Mr R. G. Matthews and others wrote with reference to boundaries oi special

rating area. Kiors fakoro, through Mr xiowartn, applied to the Council to have the necessary steDS taken to nave a road taken from the Te Kunn-Oparur? road through Te Ilumi No. S clock to give access to his land at tne back known as Te Kumi No. 7A. The petitioner stated that he was prepared to give necessary guarantee for costs of taking and forming; such road. —Resolved that r.o action be taken in the matter. Messrs Eriksson and McDonald wrote asking the Council to obtain

a warrant in order to get access through either Rangitoto Tubus C or 64 S and Te Kuiti 2 B .No. '2 to give access to section Rangitoto <i4 ' E section 3, the petitioners guaranteeing to pay the cost of survey. —Resolved " that the Ohiet Surveyor, Auckland, be written to ar.d report obtained of same, and if fa vourabls reply the clerk apply for Governor's warrant under the usual conditions. The Waikato Hospital Board bal-ance-sheet was received. Messrs Eroadfoot, F inlay and Phillips wrote re road through Orahiri and Whareraurekau blocks asking the Council to have a small portion of same between Scott's and Michell's legalised.—Resolved that the exact position re this piece of road be obtained from the Lands Office. The same firm wrote re Waipa road informing the Council that all the owners along this line of proposed ' road had signified their willingness to ioin in a guarantee for the costs of survey. —Resolved that this matter be referred to the Chief Sugveryor, Auckland, and if favourable reply was received, the clerk be instructed to obtain a Governor's warrant under usual conditions. Messrs J. R Daly and others wrote re expenditure of thirds at Mngaotki, protesting against the expenditure of tbirda on the Pio Pio side of Mr Burrow's boundary.—The engineer stated the money was being expended beneficial to the settlers con

With reference to Ryan Bros.' contract, it was decided to leave the matter in the hands of the chairman, (jr Johnson and the engineer with power to act. Mr Ghas. Cave wrote re his contract on the Pio Pio-Wairere road.— Resolved that Mr Cave be relieved of his contract, Messrs Tarry and Co. asked permission to put stone crusher on road on their Waitomo Valley road contract —Left in the hands of the engineer. £ The settlers on the Mckau-Qhura road petitioned the Council re raising loan, interest on same to be met by thirds.—Resolved that further information be obtained be the mileage of road requiring to be metalled and a suggestion made to the settlers that a gtraightout loan be obtained.—The engineer was instructed to report on same. Ths engineer s report was reaa and adopted., and appears on page 2.

Resolved that Cr Hoffman's resignation bo accepted with regret and tna-.. the clerk take the necessary steps to fill the vacancy. Resolved that the clerk write to the Te Kuiti Borough Council asking from whom they obtained permission to erect poles along the Te Kuiti-.ie Kumi road outride the borough boundary.
