BOROUGH DRAINAGE.

. .» QUESTION OF EXTENSION.

The report of the Health Inspector which was read at the Borough Council meeting on Monday evening opened up a diecußsion on the necessity of extending the borough drainage system. CrHowarth said it could be gathered from the report that the matter of draining at least the Hat portions of the town would require to be considered at an early date. They were all acquainted with the position o£ Ward street, which had bean the subject of a previous report of the Health Inspector. Mow they were confronted with a similar case in an entirely different portion ot the town. It was apparent the question would have to receive serious consideration in the near iuture. Cr Mabbett asked if the Health Department could force the council to extend their pewerasre system. The Mayor said in case of a serious evndemic the department could practically do what it pleased; the Health authorities were clothed with drastic powers. However, there was no sea- i son why the council and department j should not work hard in hand. In a j growing town such as Ts Kuiti. public i requirements could not all be filled at once, and he had no doubt every effov; would be made to keep the drainage requirements up to dare.
