BOROUGH RIQUIREMENTS.

MAYOR AT WELLINGTON

At Monday evening's meeting of the Borough Council the Mayor, Mr J. Boddie, in submitting a report of his visit, said that, thanks to the assistance of Mr C. K. Wilson, member lor the district, he had been able to interview four members of the Cabinet en various matters affecting the borough. With respect to the additional ten per cent, on the original loan, he hnd_ receive the assurance of both the Minister and the Superintendent of the Advances Department that, the money would be available within a fortnight. This would give them the opportunity of proceeding with extensions of the original work in the shape of water supply, drainage and road works according to the proportions available for each.

In respect 10 railway matters he was pleased i*> say the Minister had stated the lamp at the end cf the station would be put in as soon as possibe, and that immediately the Auckland Exhibition was over an improvement would be made in the car accommodation of the mixed trains on which at present only second class carriages were run.

In connection with the council's recommendation that additional police assistance should be provided at Te Kuiti, the Minister had given an assurance that as soon as men who were now in training at +he depot were available ah extra constable would be provided for Te Kuiti. The Mayor said he had also brought under the notice of the Minister the fact that additional Justices of the Peace were required for Te Kuiti and further appointments would be mde in due course.

In connection with electric light matters the Mayor said ne had visited Eketahuna, but had not yet prepared a detailed report. He suggested that this report should first be subn-itted to the Electric Light Committee, and this course was adopted.
