TE MAPARA.
Own Correspondent. After the long dreary winter months the "cockies" of Te Mapara have awakened and once more danced ail night to the sweet music supplied by some of our many musicians. A surprise party was sprung on to Mr L. J. Garmonson on Wednesday night of last week and a very enjoyable time everybody had. Dancing was kept up until daylight, and about twenty attended. The music was supplied hy Messrs W. Hallmond and McLean. Messrs T. Dempsey and H. Daniels attended to the duties of M's.C. to the satisfaction of all. Songs were rendered by t're fol owing ladies: Mesdamea J. Robertson, Garmson, Dempsey and McLean; also by Messr3 H. Danie!?, McLean, T. Dempsey Garmson, W. Halmond, J. Dempsey and Robertson.
The grass in the settlement has started to grow, an'd everyone are busy getting ready lor the milking season. Some two hundred cows will be milked here this season. The roads are tb° one drawback, and the sooner we have metal the quicker the settlement will go ahead.
