Davis left Wellington for Sydney last week by the Maunganui with the A.J.C. Derby sandidate Soltano. 1 had a look over the son of Soult before he was shipped, writes "Whalebone" in the Auckland Star. He looks in great heart, and just in nica condition to stand the winding-up gailops necessary for a race of this description. The colt has furnished splendidly, snd it is the intention of his owner to race him at the Tattersall's meeting and also at Rorehill if he lands in time to be registered and nominated. In conversation, his trainer informed me that" he had not galloped the colt over a further journey than eight furlongs, but his display over that distance gave the impression that it would not be the journey that would trouble him. After racing at Randwick, Soltano will be brought back to Wellintgon, and raced at the Wellington Spring Meeting, in the Champion Plate, after which he will be taken north to fulfil his engagement in the Great Northern Guineas. It having beten decided by the executors in the estate not to carry on the racing interests of the late Mr C. J. Williamson, the deceased's horses have been placed in the hands of Meßsra H. Chisholm and Co. for sale. They vffill he submitted at the Randwick stables on September sth, and will include , the two-year-olds Country Cousii., Dorchester—Cousin Mary; UkeWela, Earlston —Terala; The Fortune Hunter—Flavus—Boiling; the three-year-olds Assouan, Malster Field Rose; Koropko, Prudent King—Lady Maure; the four-year-old Charles (he First, Prudent King—Condemned; ar.d the imported mare The Quaker Girl, Santoi —Lilian Wit. The principal item in connection with the sale is that Mr Williamson in his will provided that the net proceeds should be divided be tween certain charitable institutions in Sydney and Melbourne. In the matter of prize-money descendants of Wallace long since placed the chestnut's total ahead of that of his famous grand sire, Musket; and with the further addition of £16,785 as the result of last seson's racing he bids fair to supplant his sire Carbine at the head of the list amongst noteworthy colonial bred horses. Up to the end of last season Carbine's descendants had won £156,075, While with the recent additions made to Wallace total the son of Carbine's total has been raised tu £155,135. The coming season may therefore see Wallace's elevated to the top place. Carbine, it may be remarked, begat Wallace in his first season in 1891, so that the latter has now entered on his 21st year.
