USE OF MAHGARINE.
The of margarine is growing rapidly in the Mother Country, and the other week the Hon. T. Mackenzie joined a deputation which asked tne president of lbs Board of Agricutlure fur restrictive regulations. The deputation did not a.-k for r,n embargo on margarine, but is urged that the manufacturers o? the article should not be allowed to colour it in imitation of butter. At the present time large quantities of the preparation are used in boardinghouses and even in hotels where the consumers are led to believe they are eating butter of an inferior grade. Advertisers are absolutely unscrupulous in suggesting that their margarine is butter or contains butter. Mr Mackenzie said that the consumption of this stuff would decrease very considerably if its makers were not allowed to colour and wrap it in imitation of butter. The Minister said he would rsailaed the public was being defrauded and promised to consider the position.
