BOROUGH CRUSHING PLANT.
DELAY IN ERECTION
GREATER ACTIVITY ADVOCATED
The delay in erecting the crushing plant at the borough quarry, Te Kumi, was referred to at Monday evening's council meeting by Cr Howarth, who urged that more active step should be taken in connection with such an important work. He said he would like to know from the foreman when he expected the crusher to be erected, and from Mr Bartley when the power to run the plant would be connected. Ever since he had been on the council he had heard the crusher was expected to be completed in a fortnight. After several months the position was unaltered and he thought steps should be taken to hasten the completion of such an important work, otherwise tha summer would come and go and they would atill be expecting the work to be done.
The Mayor said as far as the poles for the electric power were concerned the council was advised they were on the rail two months ago, and they had not arrived yet. The foreman said a great deal of work had yet to be done to the crusher, and a considerable quantify of gear had to be obtained. He would like the opinion of the council with reßpect to calling tenders for the work and putting the whole thing in order. They had only one man competent to do the work and if he was taken away they would never get the work done. The cost would be about £SO. and the , work could be completed in about month.
Cr Howarth said it would b8 worth while to get report from the Works Committee and hold a special meeting to consider it. If the committee were of opinion tenders should be called the matter should be hastened. Cr M. J. Jones moved that the Works Committee go into the matter and be empowered to call tenders for the work.
Cr Somerville in seconding the motion said he had been on the council since its inception, and the crusher had been before the council ever since. He would be glad to see it working. The motion was carried unanimousIv.
