DEFENCE NEGOTIATIONS.
NOTHING DEFINITE.
A statement as to the defence negotiatons with the Mother Country were made by the Hon, Jas. Allen, Minister of Defence, early on Thursday morning. He could not, he said, lay on the table the correspondence with the naval authorities, hecause it was not only confidential, but absolutely secret. Mr Russell: What have you committed New Zealand to?
The Minister: I have already said I have committed New Zealand to nothing, neither with regard to the expeditionary force nor the naval agreement. I have certain proposals which I gave to my colleagues. Those proposals have been altered here, and when the final alteration takes place and Cabinet has approved them they will be submitted to the House. The proposal is not complete. Correspondence is still going on, and until it comes to a conclusion nothing definte can be placed before the House.
