AUCKLAND LAND BOARD.

A meeting of the Auckland Land Board was held on Thursday, there being present: The Commissioner (Mr H M. Skeet), and Mesrss Harris, Trunson, Johns, and Rountree.

The whole 3f the morning whs oc cupied in the cersonal examination in conmmittee of applicants for transfers, both transferors and transferees. There was some very straight talk from the Commissioner and the members of the hoard in several instances where they considered that an unreasonable amount was being charged by the outgoing tenant for the goodwill. An application by the tenant of section 13, block 10, Cambridge survey district (Whitehall Settlement), for the transfer of half his allotment of 1339 acres to three brothers was declined absolutely. The ranger had reported that the land was not suitable for dairying purposes, for which it was proposed to be used. The improvements, the Commissioner said, had been assessed at £7OO, and these three young men were asked to give £4686 over and above that for goodw 11. They were good men and good Bettlers, but £4OOO was too much to pay to a speculator for heing good men.

An application was made by the holder of section 4, block 11, one of the Hetana Hamlet sections at New Lynn, to transfer his holding of four acres, after holding it for only a few months. The Commissioner commented that the transferor was making £IOO on his deal. The proposed transferee was represented, but the board intimated that it was the man Who wished to make the £IOO that they wanted to see, and they deferred the application.
