FOOTBALL.
The inter-island match which was played last Saturday at Christchurch, provided a good contest for half the game, but in the concluding stages he Southerners ran over their opponents, and finished up 25 points to the good. The game between the Maori team and Wellington last Saturday provided a wonderful reversal of form. In the first half the Wellington players scored piodigiously and it was not till 23 points stood against the Maoris that the dusky warriors developed a desire to open up and give their backs a chance. When they did exert themselves the Maoris rattled on 21 points before time was called. They had hard luck in not securing a draw as one of the shots at goal struck the upright. In the Northern Union game be tween Auckland and Hawke's Bay on Saturday, the Aucklanders again demonstrated their superiority by scoring 34 points against their opponents' 7. Ifwerson, the brilliant threequarter who last season represented Auckland in the Rubgy game, *vas chiefly responsible for the big score. He is credited with playing a brilliant game and scored four trieß.
