Ten nominations have been received for the vacancies on the committee, and as only six places have to be filled there is every prospect of an interesting election. The retiring members of the committee are Messrs Howarth, Vercoe, Mussen, Wallace and Snadden, and of these the three first, mentioned are standing for re-election. In addition Messrs J Francis, W. J. Hoffman, J. B. Young, J. O'Brien, H. Rotbery, and C. Stevens are nominated. Hitherto the club has had highly successful meetings the last being easily a record. The course is one of the best in the country' and in years to come when the progress of the district warrants the expenditure of sufficient money to provide full training facilities and beautify the property, the racecourse will be a veritable beauty spot. The report and balance sheet which have been issued to members disclose a satisfactory position and with careful administration the club should continue to progress satisfactorily. The Christchurch Grand Nationals promise to provide ample excitement for the sporting community. The acceptances show that all the notable performers intend adhearing to their engagements, and nearly everything engaged can be given a chance The prospects of Coronetted in the hurdles are being loudly proclaimed in certain quarters and the hor3e rr,u3t have an excellent chance. Still there are many doughty performers to be disposed of, in addition to a number of younger aspirants among whom there is always a chance of striking an unexpectedly good one. Dorando, who has figured prominently in all the big steeplechases this season is held to be well treated at C'Church, and if the horse maintains his form he must give trouble to the best of them in the race. The latest efforts of Soltano, says "The Squire," on the tracks at Napier Park demonstrate that the colt is really well, lor on Saturday morning he registered a good mile gallop. High Pressure assisting him half the trip, Eocene being associated with the son of Soult and Monoquil for the other four furlongs of the journey. Soltano held his own with comfort, and was a winner at any part of the gallop.
