Afterwards the conference waited on Mr Massey with numerous legislative suggestions. i*.* Replying, the Prime Minister stated the Government contemplated an amendment to the Death Duties Act. They wore also studying the matter of light railways. With regard to the tariir it was not. proposed to increase the duty on any articles the farmers required. They hoped to reduce the duties on a largo number of things but couhfnot, howevcr.afford to give away much in revenue. In order'to relievo the shortage on railways of rolling .stock large quantities of trucks and passenger cars were now being constructed. The Government at present was doing more in the way of immigration than had been done for some time. The Stallions Bill had been printed and would be sent to the Agricultural Committee, but he did not know if they wuld be able to deal with the Clean Seeds Bill as it was a very big ques;ion. With regard to the native lands it wan not proposed to wail until they were individualised beforefpurchasing them. A Bill was now being drafted which would go further thai, anything attempted up to the preaent.
