—■ - ♦■• APPLICATION FOR SUBSIDY. In connection with the application for a £ for £ subsidy for the metalling of the Pungarehu and Maire roads, for which a loan is now being raised by the settlers, the. following letter has been received by Mr C. K. Wilson from the Minister for Public Works: — "I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of 11th June, forwarding petition from N. L. Thomas and other sattlers in which application is made for a £1 for £1 subsidy for metalling the Pungarehu and Maire roads. In reply I have to state that the representations made have been noted and will receive careful consideration when the Public Works Estimates are being compiled."—W.
