HOSPITAL REPRESENTATION.

APPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS. NO FIXED NUMBER. Writing on the matter of hospital representation, the Inspector-General of Hospitals informed the Waikato Hospital Board on Thursday that the necessary steps were being taken to appoint two representatives for the combined district of Waitomo County, Te Kuiti Borough and Ohura County, which failed to hold an election. With regard to the appointment of a representative for the combined district of Kaitieke County and Taumarunui Borough, it appeared, said the writer, that Mr Kay, who had been elected to represent the Taupo, continued to act. The Crown Law officers had been consulted, and stated that the Governor had no authority t> appoint a representative for the combined dis> trict of Kaitieke County and Taumarunui Borough; that the Board did not consist of a fixed number of members, and therefore could not be said to be one member short; and further that it necessarily followed that where a combined district was divided into two, and each given a separate representative, the one man must represent them both until tin- new elections took place.

The clerk said <hat under these circumataivftH the board would constat of fifteen instead of sixteen mombcrs. The communication was received.
