DISTRICT REQUIREMENTS.
- •*■ ROAD MATTERS. Mr C. K. Wilson, member for the district, has received the following letters from Ministers in respect to matters of interest to the district: — PARAHEKA LOAN. Dear Sir. —With reference to the representations of Mr Keighley and other settlers who interviewed me at Aria on the 25th ult. and asked for a £ for £ subsidy to complete the formation, metalling, and culverts on the Kumara, Paraheka, and Kie Kie roads, and also that a £2 for £1 subsidy be granted for one mile on Davidson's Hill adn for two miles on the Kie Kie road, from the Baddle towards Ruasell's, at an estimated cost of £12,500, I have to say that I am now informed by the Minister of Public Works that these requests will be considered when the Estimates for the current year are being prepared.—W. F. MASSEY.
A MANGAORONGO ROAD. Sir. —Referring to the letter which you forwarded me from Mr W. H. Barber, of Otewa, Otorohanga, relative to road access to his section above described, I have to state that the grant referred to by Mr Barber is 'a sum of £llOO, which was authorised by the Lands Department for the purpose of giving access to Rangitoto Improved Farm Settles occuDying sections 1,2.3, 4, and sd, block XIV.. This road formation, which would have run through sections 33 82, 33 83, No. 12 (Mr Cruickshanks), No. 13 (Mr Barker), and No. 6 (Mr McPhee), was Btrongly objected to by the Rangitoto Improved Farm Settlers, and also by Mr Cruickshanks. The matter was therefore referred to the Lands Department for reconsideration, and the Department has just decided to cancel the expenditure of the £llOO on the proposed road through sections previously mentioned, and to divert it so as to give the Rangitoto Improved Farm Settlers access on to the Otewa extension road running out of the N.E. corner of the settlement and through Rangitoto-Tuhua No. 348. You will understand, of course, that the £llOO was provided for the purpose of giving the Rangitoto Improved Farm Settlers road access, and it was thought that this might be done by means of a road which would at the I same time give access to Messrs Cruickshanks, Barber, and McPhee.
