TE KUITI DEBATING SOCIETY.
The usual sitting of Parliament | under the auspices of the Te Kuiti Debating Society wa3 held at the MuniciI pal Hall on Thursday evening. The debate on the Public Works Statement, on which a want of confidence motion had bean proposed by Mr J. B. Young, leader of the Labour Party, was continued. The Government proposals were keenly criticised by Messrs Young, Langstone, and Turner (Labourites); while Messrs Howarth, Ellison, Inder, and Kirkwood spoke on behalf of the Government. Messrs J. Jones and Robinson (Conservatives) supported the proposals, and the. no-confidence motion was defeated.
The Graduated Land Tax proposals of the Government were introduced by the Prime Minister, and were passed without opposition. Mr Howarth intimated that at next sitting the Native Land Bill would be introduced, and an interesting debate on this important measure is anticipated. On Thursad" evening next a debate on the subject of disarmament is to be held. The Rev. Mr Griffiths will take the affirmative, and Mr E. Martin the negative.
