ROADING THE DISTRICT.
APPLICATION FOR LOANS. In consequence of the financial stringency which has been experienced during the past year or more the applications for loans for reading proposals have been unable to be entertained by the Government Advances Department. The position has now considerably improved in New Zealand, and settlers throughout this district are forwarding applications through the local body for metalling loans. During the past month the following applications have been forwarded by the Waitomo County Council. Widening, culverting and metalling Pungarehu road £2BOO, the rate struck to cover the loan being 2id in the £; Kio Kio roads £SOO, rate2Jd; Pio Pio-Mairoa road £2OOO, rate l|d. Forming, culverting, and metalling Kumara and Kiekie roadß £3500, rate 2Jd. Culverting and metalling Otewa road £1750, rate 2d. The loans aggregate £15,050, and applications for a £ for £ subsidy have been made in each instance.
