AMUSEMENTS.

EMPRESS THEATRE. "The Hazards of Life" Rosa Rosalee and Vitterina Caseldi have been fast friends at the convent. Vitterina is an orphan, while Rosa is the daughter of wealthy parents. Rosa leaves the convent and later marries a man much older than herself, who has been chosen by her parents. After five years Rosa is the mother of a curly-haired boy, while Vitterina is making fame on the stage. The latter meets Bnze R ■mboldi, who falls madly in love with her, despite the fact that he is married to Rosa. Fanny I finds that she returns Enze's love. When she learns that Enze is married, she scorns him. Enze tries to secure a divorce. Poor Rosa is brokenheared, and writes to her husband saying that she shall commit suicide, and asking him to take care of her boy, then signs her She then goes to where Enze is staying and sends the child to scour room after room with the note. The child comes across Vitterina; she takes the letter then finds that Enze she loves is the husband of her friend. She has the country searched and by a miracle finds Rosa not dead. Enze is now sobered by the tragedy which has nearly occurred, and when he receives a note of forgiveness from his wife he comes home to be happily united.

RAILWAY AND CARRIERS' SOCIAL. The initial social and progressive euchre party under the auspices of the carriers and railway officials in Te Kuiti was held on Wednesday evening in the Town Hall, when fully eighty couples paid for admission. The func tion was conducted in a masterly manner by an energetic commitee, who had the floor and supper arrangements well attended to, and one and all present indulged in the fun and pleasure of the evening to the fullest extent. Mr Christian supplied the music in his usual finished style, which added greatly to the success of the function. During the evening songs were rendered by Mrs Clarke, Misa Sheehan.and Messrs R. Adame,and Cain,Mr Hagley executed a step dance to the pleasure of those present.
