LANDS FOR SETTLEMENT.
PURCHASES BY CROWN, The purchase of estates for subdivi sion and settlement during the last financial year involved an expenditure of £444,413 including £16,369 for incidental expenses. The Dayments during the previous year for purchases under the Land for Settlements Act amuunted to £397,768 so that this year's expenditure showed an increase of £46,645.
Following is a list of the estates purchased during the year with the names of the vendors and the prices paid: Ashwick R. J. Hamilton, £30,910: Arundel Extension, J. Irwin, W. T. Lowe, and J. C. Helmore, £25,328; Aylesbury, W. Wright, £1,041; Bourndale, T. Sealey and the Crown, £21,857; Claremont, H. T. Rosendale, £30,367; Mount Nessing, E. Jones, £43,000; Otanamono, T. Telford, £30,917; Sherenden, J. P. Lethbridge and H. W. Hoasley. £77,531; Strathmore, W. H. Simmons, £8408; Timaunga Extension, W. J. and E. B. Levers, D. J. Blair, J. Patterson, and W. Scott, £26,552; Valverde, G. W. Leadley, £13,687, in addition to £14,000 paid during the previous year; Waimate, E. M. L. Studholms, £26,879; Waihau, W. M. W. Mills, H. M. Peacock, and H. Hartree, £76,388.
