VALEDICTORY.

PRESENTATION TO MR HORNIBROOKE. A large gathering assembled in Hattaway's sample rooms on Monday evening last, the occasion being to farewell Mr Hornibrooke, who has been transferred from Te Kuiti to the Mount Eden railway station. Mr N. C. Matthew presided. The room was filled to its utmost capacity with Mr Hornibrooke's fellow employees, football friends, and also a number of townspeople. The toast of "The King" having been honoured, Mr J. F. Walsh proposed "The Railwavs," to which Mr Gifford responded. The toast of "The Maniapoto Rugby Union" was proposed by Mr Lang3tone, and responded to by Messrs H. Rothery and C. Boles. "The Carriers" were toasted by Mr Cecil Boles, to which Messrs Charlton and Pitcon responded. The chairman called upon Mr Gifford to propose the toast of "The Guest," and in doing so the proposer eulogised the many good qualities possessed by Mr Hornibrooke, and expressed great regret at his departure. On behalf of the staff of the Te Kuiti station, Mr Gifford presented Mr Hornibrooke with a dressing case and silver tobacco box. Mr N. C. Matthew, on behalf of the footballers and supporters, also expressed the real genuine regret felt at Mr Hornibrooke's departure, and assured him that not only would the footballers miss him, but also the townspeople, who had come into contact with him in his business capacity. On behalf of the Te Kuiti Football Club he had great pleasure in presenting Mr Hornibrooke with a travelling bag and hand bag. A large number of those present expressed their high opinion of the guest, and wished him long life and prosperity. The toast was received with prolonged applause. Mr Hornibrooke thanked one and all for the very hearty reception given to him, and for all the kind things said about him by the various speakers, which he felt were too flattering and iot fully deserved. He had thoroughly enjoyed hia stay in Te Kuiti, and was sorry to leave so many good friends. His removal had been at his own request for family reasons only. He sincerely thanked his fellow employees, and his football friends for the presents they had made to him that night, and trusted that the Te Kuiti team would again occupy premier place. He hoped to visit Te Kuiti again and to see all his old friends. Other toasts honoured were : —"Local Bodies," proposed by Mr Rothery, responded to by Crs Walsh and Graham; "The Native Race," propped by Mr Langstone, responded to by Mr Keiha Newton; "The Ladies," proposed by Mr Mitchell, responded to by Mr F. Matthews. "The Press," "The Musicians," and "The Chairman." Messrs J. Hetet. J. Nicholson and 11. Christian supplied the accompaniments. Songs were given by Messrs, Guy, Bartlett, D. Mitchell, Crean, Carr, Heaiy. Cain, Sherlock, Poutawera and Taylor. A most enjoyable evening concluded with the singing of "Auld Lang Syne, and the National Anthem.
