EMPRESS PICTURES. "Mexican Spy."-Mary Lee, daughter of the paymaster, is in love with Colonel Loring's son Torn, he is a reckless chap given to gambling and other bad habits. Mary endeavours to reform him, but unsuccessfully. Atlast Tom steals 5000 dollars from the paymaster's safe to pay a gambling bet to Senor Luis Rivera, who is a Mexican spy. Rivera offers to return the money if Tom will steal the plana of the fortifications from the offic-ot the colonel. The deal is made and Tom secures the plans , Mary discover the treason and by pledging her jewels gives her lover the money and fores him to return the papers. Tom later joins the army on the bor der and Mary receives an appointment as a Red Cross nurse. One day she is sent to a distant point and when the waggon pulls up for the trip she finds that Tom is the driver. The waggon is attacked by Mexicans with Riverain-command. A battle ensues in which Tom is badly wounded, but Mary nurses him back to lue. *or bravery he is made a lieutenant and for love wins his old sweetheart.

Things are made uncomfortable for Sally, and she locks herself up in her room. The crowd attack her, and to escape their anger, sets fire to her room. The brigade arrives just in time for her lover to rescue iier and the terror is hurled back to the flames by the lover.

CATHOLIG SOCIAL. Next Friday evening, in the Town. * Hall, a progressive euchre party and dance will take place. The committee in charee of arrangements have provided for a good "evening's enjoyment. The proceeds are in aid of the Roman Catjolic Church debt extinction fund. Euchre will start at 8 p.m. sharp, dancing will follow,, and musical items will be rendered during the evening. It is hoped a large number of partons will attend as an enjoyable evening is guaranteed, and the object a worthy one.
