Sir,—Kindly allow me a little space in your valuable paper to contradict a rumour prevalent throughout our township circulated by a borough official to the effect that I, as poundkeeper, receive as remuneration all monies from sales of stock in public pound. Now, air, the facts are—l pay 25 per cent, of all poundage fees to the council for the privilege of holding the enviable position of poundkeeper. I provide all feed, etc., for which I am allowed a set scale of charges. Should an animal sold realise over these charges the council takes the i surplus; if any deficiency I 3m the loser —a very equitable arrangement, is it not? What the object was in circulating such a rumour ia best known to the said official himself and I should like him to explain to the public his reasons for so doing.—l am, etc., W. A. CANTLON Poundkeeper.
