A CANCELLED CONTRACT.

ACTION AGAINST COUNTY COUNCIL. In connection with the Caves road metalling loan a contract was let by the Waitomo County Council to Mr Powell in March, 1912. In conse quence of the work not proceeding to the satisfaction of the council it was decided by the council to cancel the contract, and endeavour to arrange with the contractor for the use of the plant. Efforts in that direction proved fruitless, and the contractor has issued a writ against the council claiming the amount of £1657 10s. The council's solicitors, Messrs Broadfoot and Finlay, have been instructed to defend the action.
