HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLEGRAM. [I!Y TJvLKURAPII.— PKESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Monday.
The High Commissioner's cablegram, dated London, April 12th, is as follows: —
Lamb.—The market is very firm, and stocks on hand are light. Shipments now arriving are very small. Canterbury 6|d, other than Canterbury 6§d. Mutton.—The market is very firm, with good demand for all qualities. Canterbury 4Jd, North Island 4Jd. Beef.—There is better demand, and the market has advanced. New Zealand hindquarters 4Jd, fores 3Jd. Butter.—The market is firm for choicest, but dull and declining for ordinary quality. Choicest New Zealand 115s salted, 117s unsalted; Australian and Argentine 108s, Danish 120s, Siberian 110s. Cheese.—The market is dull, and buyers are holding back expecting prices to go lower. New Zealand white 60s, coloured 595; Australian white 595, coloured 58s: Canadian white 655, coloured 645; English cheddar 74b.
Hemp.—The market is very quiet, and no business being done. There is a disposition to sell distant hemp, and the market is speculative. Spot New Zealand good fair grade £33,. fair grade £3O; fair current Manila £33; forward shipments about the same. Wool.—The market ib quiet, but firm. Buyers are waiting definite information regarding the American Tariff Bill.
