INFLAMMATION OF THE TONGUE.

It sometimes happens that the tongue is swollen to such an extent as to make closing the teeth impossible. It becomes of a shining ? Yed color. Thirst is excessive, and there is often more or less fever. This affection is inflammation of the tongue or glossitis. The treatment consists in the use of a mouth wash of warm water or camomile tea, the application of a mustard plaster or of iodine to the throat, and the administration of a laxative. In very severe cases surgical measures may be called for, and usually the case is serious enough to demand the attention of a doctor* 6
